Born in Harlem, New York Tawana spent the first 10 years of her life in a community where people actually looked out for you. The block parties were magnificent. There were barrels of crabs, music blasting and laughter filling the streets. That happy imagery of black people has stayed with her for life.
In fifth grade, she moved to the Bronx and then many years later to Louisville, Kentucky (where she resides today). Tawana feels her story is not unique. As a people, we all have those special places that molded us and no matter what our socioeconomic backgrounds may have been, we all dreamed of a brighter future for ourselves or our children. We all come from communities that have beautiful histories and amazing black people striving to make a difference every single day.
She is a 30 year HR professional that would like for corporations to be created all across this country so that beautiful Black people can occupy the conference rooms where decisions are being made. Not just one or two of us at the table if we are lucky. Tawana wants it to be our table!
